Paver Patios and Hardscaping in Mooresville, NC

A patio is only as good as what is under it. On Mooresville's clay, a paver patio set on a thin or poorly compacted base will settle and hold water within a couple of seasons. We build the base to depth, set the slope so water leaves the surface, and lock the edges so the field does not spread. Two of our completed Mooresville projects are on this site so you can see the finished work rather than take our word for it.

Hardscaping Services in Mooresville

Paver patios

Full excavation, compacted aggregate base, bedding sand, edge restraint and polymeric joint sand — built to drain, not just to look right on day one.

Outdoor kitchens and living spaces

Grill runs, counters, pizza ovens and seating built into the hardscape rather than added on afterwards.

Walkways and steps

Paver and stone walkways sized for two people, with steps set to a consistent rise on sloped lots.

Fire pits and seating walls

Built-in seating that defines the space and keeps furniture off the lawn.

Retaining and garden walls

Grade changes handled properly where the patio has to be cut into a slope.

Patio drainage

Slope, joint drainage and, where needed, a drain line so the patio does not become the new low spot in the yard.

Building Hardscape on Mooresville Lots

  • Clay subgrade does not drain, so base depth and compaction matter more here than in sandier regions.
  • Patios have to be sloped away from the house — around a quarter inch of fall per foot — or they push water back at the foundation.
  • Sloped and lakeside lots usually need a wall or a step system before the patio surface can be laid flat.
  • Shaded Mooresville back yards under mature trees stay damp, which is why joint sand and surface drainage choices matter for long-term moss control.

Hardscaping & Paver Patios FAQs

How big should my patio be?

Size it to the furniture and the way you will actually use it, then add circulation space around it. Here is how we size patios.

Pavers or poured concrete?

Pavers flex with the clay and can be lifted and reset; concrete is a single slab that cracks along its own lines. Full comparison here.

How deep does the base need to be?

It depends on the subgrade and the load, but on Mooresville clay a patio base is measured in inches of compacted aggregate, installed in lifts. More on base preparation.

Will the patio drain properly?

Yes — slope is designed in from the start, away from the house and toward a point where the water can leave. More on patio drainage and slope.

Do you replace old decks with patios?

Regularly. We demolish and remove the deck, deal with the footings and grade, and build the patio in its place — as we did on our Mooresville deck replacement project.
