The existing wooden deck had rotted. Rebuilding in wood would have meant the same failure again in ten years, plus staining and sealing in between.
Removed the old deck and replaced it with a large-format paver patio, a segmental block retaining wall forming a raised sitting area, and block steps to the rear entry.
