Concrete Installation in Lake Norman NC — Patios, Walkways and Slabs

A poured concrete patio is the right answer when you want a single, seamless surface with no joints to weed and very little to maintain. Concrete lives and dies on what goes underneath it — on Piedmont clay, a slab poured over poorly prepared subgrade will crack within a few seasons no matter how good the finish looks on day one. We pour patios, walkways, slabs and steps for homeowners in Denver, Mooresville, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville and Troutman. Free on-site estimate, no trip fee.

What we do

Our Concrete Services

Concrete patios

Poured slabs sized and shaped to the space, with control joints placed to manage where cracking happens rather than pretending it won't.

Walkways and sidewalks

Level runs from drive to door, sloped to shed water away from the house.

Slabs and equipment pads

Shed bases, HVAC pads, hot tub pads and generator pads.

Steps and landings

Poured to match the patio rather than added on afterwards.

Finishing options

Broom finish for grip, smooth trowel, or exposed aggregate. All finishes discussed on site before the pour.

Concrete or pavers?

Concrete is continuous and lower cost per square foot; pavers can be lifted and reset if the ground moves. Our hardscaping and paver patio page covers the paver side, and we're happy to price both on the same visit. We do not pour driveways.

Local conditions

Why Base Prep Matters on Clay Soil

  • Piedmont clay expands when it takes on water and shrinks when it dries. A slab sitting directly on unprepared clay moves with it, and moving concrete cracks.
  • Proper base — excavated to depth, compacted aggregate, uniform thickness — gives the slab something stable to sit on.
  • Water collecting under or against a slab is the fastest route to failure. If the area already holds water, that gets solved first — see drainage solutions.

Questions

Concrete Installation FAQs

How long before I can use a new concrete patio?

You can usually walk on a new concrete patio after 24 to 48 hours, but it needs considerably longer before it takes furniture or vehicle weight. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after the pour. We'll give you specific timings for your slab at completion, based on thickness and the weather during curing.

Will my concrete patio crack?

Concrete cracks. That is not a defect, it is what concrete does as it cures and as the ground moves underneath it. The job of the installer is to control where it happens — control joints are cut at planned intervals so the slab cracks along a straight line you barely notice, rather than randomly across the middle.

Is concrete cheaper than a paver patio?

Concrete usually costs less per square foot than pavers. The trade-off is repairability — a damaged paver can be lifted and replaced, while a cracked slab is patched or cut out. Which is better value depends on how much the ground moves on your lot and how long you plan to stay.

Can you pour over an existing slab?

Sometimes, but we'd rather not recommend it blind. Overlaying a slab that is already cracking or settling transfers the problem straight through to the new surface. We'll look at the existing concrete on site and tell you honestly whether an overlay is a reasonable idea or whether tear-out is the better spend.

Do you do concrete driveways?

No. We pour patios, walkways, slabs and steps. Driveways are outside what we take on, and we'd rather say so than take the job and do it badly.
